Announcing NEW Brand Launch

By Joy E. Davis, LMSW

Hello! I’m Joy

Thank you for joining me on my journey. Welcome to my NEW BRANDING- I am excited to share this exciting new website with my community “Joy E. Davis: JoyFULL Therapy” with a refined look and clinical focus for people needing help and support along their healing journey.

One thing about me, is I do not like to stay in the lines… I tend to have diversity in how I help, guide, and heal, and have unique skills to accommodate that. Traditional clinical training and skills mixed with hard life lessons shaken with culinary experience sums it up.

I have been cooking since I was three had two private chef businesses and had some amazing cooking milestones in fine dining as a professional chef then after 20-plus years moved into Clinical Social Work and Therapy.

As a Licensed Social Worker, LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) I’m a dedicated trauma therapist with a specialization in guiding individuals through the healing journey of divorce, religious hurt, and domestic violence recovery.

I also support couples to deepen their connection, develop healthy coping and communication patterns, and premarital couples planning a wedding to establish a healthy foundation that nurtures their love connection.

As a self-help author and coach, I am passionate about supporting you in reclaiming your strength, finding inner peace, and embracing personal growth. Join me on this transformative path towards healing and get out of your PIT to find your PURPOSE.

About 16 years ago, I went through a devastating divorce and if honest, the marriage was no picnic either. It took me a very long time to recover; I was lost during that time and had to rebuild my life in all the domains of trauma recovery, housing, support, finances, and making it work by myself- no one was going to rescue me or save me from life. No prince was coming, there was no white horse; just me rebuilding my life brick by brick.

During this time, one of the main things I needed was money to support myself I had just graduated with a culinary certificate and was working on the River Walk in fine dining making. $10/hr and walking to work because I could not afford gas then. I recognized this was NOT sustainable and I was drowning, with no emotional support or community. I did a deep dive into my next plan.

I relocated to a new state where my brother lived and was closer to my parents, got a new job, and started over again while I completed my bachelor’s degree in psychology. I wanted to do something helpful with my life and social work/therapy was that “thing” in addition to cooking that I thought was an appealing field.

I began mentoring couples and leading a Divorce recovery group through two non-profits and there was a pivotal moment when I realized I wanted to do this full-time, but needed more schooling. This would also mean I had to start over, but it felt exciting because I had a mission.

I had to move into my parent’s house to be able to gain social work experience to apply for grad school while closing my private chef business. THIS IS NOT EASY to go back to the beginning in a lot of ways, I did it.

While in grad school, I was also working in the field of social work full-time through community health and interning while trying to get good grades. There was no time for anything else.

There are a lot of hours of supervision and experience that are required for licensure with the state. It takes dedication and time while you grow as a clinician, study various models of therapy, and build client experience, with lots and lots of supervision then you have to also take a really hard exam to practice in the state.

Join me on the restorative healing and wholeness journey for more tips or therapeutic support.
